Lent 2026, The Plan

I’m already into Day 3 of Lent and I’m just now telling you my plan. And it’s funny that I’m writing this as if I have a bunch of readers. Hello out there, whoever you are!

Ok, so I’ve broken up Lent into 6 weeks, and I’ve given each week a theme (because I couldn’t decide what to give up for 40 days!), and each themed week has something to give up and will have some kind of idea to meditate on.

I tried to fast something that was challenging physically, not just an abstract idea, but something that would get into my body so I could actually feel it, actually live it. I wanted to feel lent this year.

Here’s the plan: (and by the way, traditionally, people take Sundays off and don’t really count them. I decided to take Saturdays off because that’s typically our “date night” and I didn’t want to impose my fast on my husband. So, you won’t see a blog post on Saturdays.

Week One: Feel Hunger. Fast a meal every day or fast entertainment for the day. No tv, no streaming, no social media.

Week Two: Release Control. Wait 10 minutes before I check my phone, fix a problem, defend myself, respond to anything, or explain something. Try not to control outcomes.

Week Three: Let Go My Ego. I don’t need to do things that are noticed. I can be a blessing without being noticed. Do one unseen act each day.

Week Four: Examine My Heart. Notice the parts of me that resist God. What have I noticed so far on this journey?

Week Five: Have Mercy: Do a few things that cost me. Offer my inconvenience intentionally.

Week Six: Walk With Christ To The Cross. Holy Week Meditations.

So that’s the plan, let’s see how it goes. I may or may not post every day. I need to find my rhythm in this. Join me if you want to.

Peace

I love this idea and I love that you have a multitude of ways that you are giving of yourself.
