Maybe it seems strange for me to be writing children’s books about certain saints, especially since I’m not Catholic. But I wanted my grandkids (and others who are interested) to know that these holidays we celebrate here in the US like, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day Christmas with St. Nicholas, are based on real people who loved God and did good. They are worth celebrating.
So, Saint Patrick was an exciting but kind of dark story. He lived among the ancient Druids in Ireland and they were a pretty scary lot. He was kidnapped as a child and he was put into slavery. I thought this was the kind of story that my grandboys and my grandnephews would like.

It’s not the flowers and honey story of Saint Valentine. So, I tried to focus on his bravery and his daring actions.

Patrick is a great story of someone who learns to forgive those who treated him cruelly and spends his life trying to make sure they know God. I chose the event of The Fire of Slane to show Patrick’s bravery. Patrick challenges the King of Ireland by lighting an Easter fire before the King lights his pagan ritual fire. Patrick could’ve been put to death, but something happens.
Now that the Saint Patrick book is finished, I’m going to write 2 stories about Saint Francis of Assisi. Many kids probably don’t know him, but my grandkids do because he’s my favorite saint. He loved animals and he preached to them! He also came up with the idea of a live nativity scene – because it uses animals!
After Saint Francis, I want to write about Saint Nicholas. I’ll talk about the fact that he was a Turkish priest and, I won’t spoil it, but St. Nicholas was involved in an altercation at the Council of Nicea. It’s crazy, haha!
I hope that people will be interested and share these stories with their kids and grandkids. Just click HERE to go to Amazon to buy the book.
